A Commitment to Prosperity for Rhode Island
Like many of us – and as a former business owner – I am committed to the future success of our state and prosperity of its people and businesses. There is so much opportunity here, yet too many of our great students leave RI and never return, while many with great potential face complex challenges which impact their ability to succeed. The UCAP School is helping to change that.
The Fund for UCAP was established to support the enhancement of UCAP’s personalized learning environment with Beyond U programs, which are a crucial part of UCAPs success but are not funded by the public school system. These enriched experiences have been shown to greatly improve students’ attendance, study habits, attitudes toward school, and provide real-world exposure.
One of those programs that I am particularly proud of is our Save The Bay partnership. As a member of the Save The Bay Board of Directors, and through a grant from our Rallis-Conover Donor Advised Fund, I was able to connect these two amazing resources for our inner-city youth. This Summer camp is open to all UCAP students and incoming students. From investigation and field study of salt marshes to shoreline exploration and boat building, the camp provides STEM-related activities and enhances team building, providing new students the opportunity to meet their classmates.
As we move into a new year, lots is happening at UCAP. I look forward to building upon our current relationships and making new ones to continue to create our state’s future leaders.
Chair, Fund for UCAP Board of Directors
The Fund for UCAP is a private, non-profit organization established by thoughtful, insightful, generous individuals who believe in and support UCAP’s mission. The board is responsible for raising and managing funds to benefit The UCAP School and its students, including funding UCAP’s Beyond U.
In 2013, the Fund successfully completed the Expanding the Possibilities Capital Campaign which supported the building of, the Annex, which houses a science lab, arts studio and gymnasium at The UCAP School. Today, the Annex serves as the hub for Beyond U programs.
The Fund also supports other student programs, capital needs, and special initiatives identified by the boards of The UCAP School and the Fund for UCAP. At least two members of The Fund for UCAP Board sit on the UCAP’s advisory board.
FUND for UCAP 2019-2020 Board of Trustees
The Board determines all fundraising goals and activities of the school. Members meet bi-monthly from September through May.
